Pastor Femi Olupitan, the General Overseer, Shepherds Flocks Christian Church said “ I got a text this morning (last Thursday) at about 10 am from my friend about the death of the great man of God. I was shocked at the news. Evangelist Robert started preaching before Pastor Adeboye was born. At 91, he was still a powerful preacher of the gospel. I have never seen him before on CNN or any TV station, but I have read his books.
Pastor Olupitan, said “my advice to the youth of Nigeria is that they should turn to God and get close to him. They should live by example for them to make heaven”
Also speaking on the glorious passage of Robert, Bishop A. O. Inyang of the Vineyard Christian Ministries said “a general has gone home, that is the first step. He has done a great work, we were expecting him home, just the way he went and he lived to an old age.
“He was a man that made great impact in his time. He could move a people with his faith-healing messages. Evangelist Robert raised up men in the likes of Kenneth Copeland and we knew who Oral Robert was through Kenneth Copeland because he spoke more of him.”
Oral Roberts was taken to hospital after a fall at the weekend. It was said he had died from complications from pneumonia in Newport Beach.
Mr Roberts’s philosophy was the unity of mind, body and spirit, although he was known as labels of “faith healer”. He reached millions from the 1960s onwards, wrote dozens of books and found Oral Roberts University. The University, chartered in 1963, is based in Tulsa in Oklahoma, where Mr. Roberts had entered an evangelistic ministry 1947. It was there he took up his theme, which many labeled faith healing, although Mr. Roberts said that that was God’s duty. But he did conduct hundreds of “miracle healing crusade” for thousands people in more than 35 countries.
Mr. Roberts was the first to introduce television broadcasting into his sermons in the mid-50s.
Born on January 24, 1918 in Oklahoma, Oral said that overcoming tuberculosis at 17 was the driving force behind his emergence as one of the leading evangelist. He also survived two heart attacks in the 1990s.
He has ministered to , and sometimes influenced, an astonishing variety of celebrities, leading many into the baptism of holy spirit and speaking in tongues.
