There are also plans by the Police to immortalize other athletes in the force who have won laurels for the country at different international competitions.

This was made public by the Force Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent, Frank Mbah who said the decision to immortalize the athletes has received the blessing of the IGP, M.D Abubakar and his management team.

Addressing the press in Abuja, the Police image maker said the move is aimed at encouraging athletes in the force to put in their best knowing full well that they would be recognized and immortalized, if they bring honour to the country.

He said: “We have concluded plans to immortalize our athletes who have done the country proud in various areas of sports. In this respect, we are talking about Sunday Bada of blessed memories. We would also be looking at Chioma Ajunwa. You will agree with me that these two have two things in common. Sunday Bada is a god medalist at Olympics. You will remember that he won gold medal in 4X400 relay. For Chioma Ajunwa, she remains the only Nigerian, living or dead that has won an individual gold medal at the Olympic.

“Already we have put up a Hall of Fame and it would be dedicated to our sports men and women who have brought honour and glory to this country”.

Mbah also disclosed that the IGP had approved the taking over of the sponsorship of the Okun Race, an annual athletics championship which late Sunday Bada initiated and sponsored for many years.

“It is in line with this concept of respecting, remembering, honouring and immortalizing our great sports men and women that the IGP has graciously approved the sponsorship of the Okun Race which traditionally was organized and sponsored by Late Sunday Bada every December 29 in his own home state of Kogi.
