The Association of Nigerian Professionals in Europe (ANPE) has appealed to leaders of the European Union (EU) to promote diplomatic engagement and constructive partnership with Nigeria in addressing security and development challenges.

In an electronic statement issued from Paris, the association urged the EU to strengthen collaboration with Nigeria through strategic support in counterterrorism, intelligence sharing, and institutional capacity building.

According to ANPE, global cooperation should be guided by mutual respect, dialogue, and shared commitment to peace rather than actions or rhetoric that could create misunderstanding or tension.

A statement signed by Dr. Livinus Chukwuemeka Nwosu, ANPE President, and Mrs. Aisha M. Bello, a security expert and secretary of the group, called on European leaders to encourage balanced international engagement with Nigeria and the wider West African region.

“We urge the European Union, as a global voice for peace and diplomacy, to continue promoting constructive dialogue and partnership with Nigeria. Our country needs international cooperation that supports security, democratic consolidation, and economic development,” the statement said.

The association emphasised that Nigeria’s religious and cultural diversity remains a foundation for national strength and unity. It cautioned against narratives that could misrepresent the country’s complex security challenges as religiously motivated.

“Terrorism, insurgency, and banditry in Nigeria have affected citizens of all faiths and backgrounds. Every Nigerian life is sacred, and collective global effort should focus on peacebuilding and sustainable security,” ANPE stated.

The group also encouraged the EU to support Nigeria’s counterterrorism initiatives through enhanced technical assistance, joint training, and coordinated efforts to disrupt the financing of violent groups.

ANPE noted that Nigeria’s economy continues to show resilience through reforms, particularly in the oil and gas sector, where regulatory transparency and investor confidence are improving. The association assured European investors that Nigeria remains open for responsible and mutually beneficial partnerships.

“European partners investing in Nigeria’s energy and infrastructure sectors can be confident in the country’s ongoing reform process, which aims to strengthen accountability, boost local participation, and attract sustainable investment,” the group said.

The association commended the Nigerian government’s ongoing efforts to maintain stability, strengthen governance, and promote inclusive economic growth despite global challenges. It also called on Nigerians at home and abroad to remain optimistic and committed to nation-building.

“ANPE stands in solidarity with the Nigerian government and people as we continue to work towards lasting peace, security, and prosperity,” the statement added.

The group concluded by urging the EU to continue facilitating dialogue among global partners to promote understanding, prevent conflict, and support regional stability.

“Europe has long been a valued partner to Nigeria. Through continued engagement, mutual trust, and shared commitment to peace, both sides can advance collective security and sustainable development,” ANPE said.
