President of NSE, Engr. Mustafa Balarabe Shehu, dropped the hint last Thursday at the society’s second quarterly dinner which held in Abuja.
Engr. Shehu said that the software which was received from the information communication technology (ICT) giant Worldview-Autodesk of South Africa has already been deployed to equip the education arm of the Society called the Engineering Practice Resource Centre (EPRC).
He pledged the Society’s commitment to assisting members in the area of continuous professional development in order to remain relevant in the scheme of things within the global engineering family.
Engr. Shehu also disclosed that the NSE has formally launched a Community Engineering Programme which is aimed at bridging the gap in expectation from the public through quality service delivery. “The Community Engineering Programme is an unconventional way of delivering services by Engineers to their immediate community; it is a new frontier of engineering partnership and practice for the overall benefit of the Society”, he noted.
He enumerated the performance indicators of the new programme to  include involvement of engineers in patching of potholes on urban  highways and rural roads, repairs of drainage systems, career talks in  schools and teaching of science related subjects in the respective  communities where engineers live and operate from.
 The President, at the event, conferred thirty-nine (39) engineers with the Fellow of the Society, signaling their entry into the league of elitist professionals in delivering value services to the development of the nation.
He charged the recipients of the fellowship to see the conferment as a wake-up call; a tonic to galvanize and increase their interest in and contribution to the growth and development of the engineering profession and nation in general.
“Fellowship of the Nigerian Society of Engineers is the highest honour bestowed by the Society on members within its fold who have been found worthy of such honour, in learning, practice and contribution to the growth of the noble profession of engineering, as well as to the development of his immediate society and the nation in general,” he said.
