Nigerian startup seeks to fill Air Conditioning service gap

A new Nigerian company, Captain Cool, has entered the air conditioning market with a focus on improving the quality of installation and maintenance services available to households and businesses.

Founded in 2025 as a subsidiary of infrastructure firm Sabiwork, the company was created in response to what it describes as a recurring problem of poor technical support in cooling system installation and servicing.

The company’s founder, Olatayo Ajiboye, said many customers invest in quality air conditioning units but face persistent issues due to unprofessional installation and unreliable maintenance.

“We saw clients struggling with frequent breakdowns and poor service despite owning good equipment,” Ayomide said. “Captain Cool was created to provide trained technicians and consistent after-sales support.”

The startup offers installation, maintenance, and repair services for both residential and commercial clients. It began operations with a contract to install cooling systems at a hotel in Benin City shortly after its launch.

Ayomide noted that while demand for reliable AC services is high, the industry faces several challenges, including erratic power supply, high equipment costs linked to foreign exchange volatility, and a shortage of skilled technicians.

“Unstable power and fluctuating import costs remain big challenges for the sector,” he said. “We’re focusing on building local capacity and efficiency to manage these realities.”

Captain Cool plans to expand its services to other major Nigerian cities and explore the introduction of energy-efficient cooling systems suited to local conditions.
