Calderwood said this yesterday in Abuja during the opening of the 11th Canada education fair where 60 Canadian educational institutions participated.
He also said that there are 5000 Nigerian students studying in different parts of Canada which also form part of the largest group in his country.
“Nigerian students in Canada institutions have been helpful in promoting trade ties between my country and Nigeria.
They are 9th among the largest group we have in Canada,” Calderwood said.
Quoting Canadian Minister of trade, the envoy said “outstanding international students and researchers not only enrich our campuses but make Canada more competitive by sharing knowledge and expertise both during their time at university and afterwards.”
He also added that Nigerian students form a new link with citizens from other parts of the world and that they are always outstanding which was why most Canadian institutions always pleased to have them.
Calderwood while fielding question from journalists noted Nigeria’s financial potentials in having quality educational system saying it is important for Nigeria to manage its resources properly to further develop the education system.
On the bilateral relations between both countries, the High Commissioner however disclosed that they have a dynamic bilateral relations in many areas, education inclusive.
“Our educational institutions have contacts with Nigerian institutions and association of colleges are working with their Nigeria counterpart to develop curriculum together for use in our institutions.
