The Global President of Green World for Medicinal Plants and National President of the Modern Traditional Medicine Practitioners of Nigeria, Dr. Ibrahim Dada Nakowa, has cautioned against the indiscriminate use of plants as medicinal remedies.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja, Dr. Nakowa expressed concern over the loss of lives due to the consumption of unhealthy plants.

To address this issue, the association is seeking a partnership with an Indian traditional medical firm to replant medicinal plants in Nigeria.

“We have identified 10 hectares of land for this purpose, as medicinal plants are going into extinction,” Dr. Nakowa stated.

He emphasized the importance of research and wisdom in using plants for medicinal purposes, noting that God has provided humans with the necessary plants to cure diseases, but proper identification and usage are crucial.

Dr. Nakowa revealed that the association is collaborating with the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Science and Technology to regulate the use of medicinal plants and prevent harm to human health.

The National Secretary of the association, Dr. Bamidele Fatoye, explained that a recent strategic meeting was held to establish working modalities, structures, and policies for the effective management of the association.

The meeting also led to the dissolution of state chairmen and the appointment of acting chairmen for Niger, FCT, and Edo states.
