Oshiomhole expressed his regrets over the comments, which went viral and attracted many knocks for the governor. He said he made the comments in anger.
Oshiomhole tendered his apology when the leadership of the Federation of Muslim Women’s Association of Nigeria (FOMWAN), paid him a courtesy visit in Benin. He noted that though the challenge of modern times had placed on the shoulders of some women and single mothers the status of bread winners of their homes, such should not be used as an excuse to flout the laws.
New Media brings some of the comments on the Oshiomhole/widow affair:
 Philip Abba: Mere apology alone will not do much. But finding the woman and guaranteeing her a livelihood and support would be much more better. Please, the governor should put her back on business track.

Patrick Asibor: Apology? Compensation and resettling the poor widow will not be enough for the tears and agony he made her go through on that day. Come to think of this: was the widow the only Edo citizen that defied the law?
Ayodele Babatunde Joseph: Mere apology is not enough. What happens to that widow’s goods that were whisked away by his men? Try and seek the poor woman and put her back on business track. And, never again allow yourself to be beclouded by your position. Always be compassionate to people because they are the ones who put you in that exalted position. What do you want people to say of you when one day you are out of power? Think about it.
 From the comments above, it is obvious that Nigerians are not happy with what the Governor did, hence the castigation. But what matters now is that he has apologised to the widow and asked for her forgiveness.
