The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of First Rotech Group of Companies and developer of the Abuja Airport Garden City, High Chief Austin Oguejiofor, has urged Nigerians to support the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for what he described as notable development efforts in the FCT.
Oguejiofor made the appeal on Friday while commending the minister’s initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure and restoring aspects of the Abuja Masterplan. He said Wike’s appointment by President Bola Tinubu had contributed to visible improvements in the capital city and surrounding areas.
According to him, several long-standing projects in the FCT that had experienced slow progress over the years have recorded renewed activity. He noted that many of the projects, awarded at different times between 2007 and 2017, have now been completed or revived.
“As a developer, I can attest that significant progress has been made in the development of the FCT,” Oguejiofor said. “It is important to highlight some of the projects that have received attention, with the minister visiting construction sites to monitor progress and ensure quality delivery.”
He stated that the FCT administration had carried out key interventions, including rehabilitation of the Abuja Rail Mass Transit system, resurfacing of roads within the city, and completing the interchange bridge linking Wuye and Wuse I Districts under the Wuye District Infrastructure project.
Oguejiofor added that the administration had also undertaken the installation and rehabilitation of streetlights across major parts of the city, contributing to improved illumination at night. He noted other completed projects such as the renovation of the FCT minister’s residence in Life Camp, the 11km access road from the Airport Expressway to Kuje, and the construction of a service carriageway of the Inner Northern Expressway from Ring Road III to Ring Road IV.
He further explained that the six Area Councils had also benefited from interventions, including the renovation and construction of some primary and secondary schools, as well as about 120km of rural roads.
Oguejiofor advised Nigerians to support ongoing development efforts in the FCT, adding that inclusive collaboration was necessary to achieve long-term improvements in the capital city.
According to him, “It is important for Nigerians to collectively support initiatives aimed at ensuring sustainable development of the FCT for the benefit of all residents.”
He said public support would encourage continuity in development programmes and strengthen adherence to the Abuja Masterplan, which has guided physical planning in the capital city since its creation.
