The list is not bad at all. Most of the players that we expect to be in South Africa are there on the list. Taye Taiwo, Ikechukwu Uche, Kalu Uche and other young players can be blended with the old players like Kanu Nwankwo, John Utaka and the rest. From the list, I want to believe that the final 23 players that will be selected at the end of the day will be a true reflection of what Nigeria has to offer the World.

John Solomon (maintenance officer)

There is nothing wrong with the list released by Coach Lagerback. In fact, he has done his best before coming up with the list, which I think is the best we have for now. If there are one or two players that are not on the list, we can just forgive the new coach, because he cannot invite everybody for the World Cup. Although, some of the players are ageing, we still need their experience in the team. We cannot drop all the experienced players and go to the South Africa 2010 with inexperienced ones. There is no place where such is done.

Blessing Ejeh (maintenance officer)

I have much belief in the boys Coach Lagerback has selected for camping. The inclusion of Osaze Odemwinge, Mikel Obi, Ik Uche and other young players in the list gives me the hope that Eagles will not disappoint us in South Africa. The list will still be pruned down to 23 at the end of the day; so any one of them that is not good enough for the World Cup will be shown the way out. That means the final players that we are likely going to see at the end of the camping period will be the best that we have across the World.

Abiola Oyewusi (policeman)

I believe that Lagerback is a very experienced coach, whose wealth of experienced may take the players very far in the World Cup. He has chosen both young and old players to go to camp and fight for shirts. That is a good development. We cannot do away with Kanu, Utaka and other tested players in the Super Eagles for now. There is no doubt the fact that Kanu Nwankwo is old, but we cannot take the experience away from him. His presence in the team will encourage the young and inexperienced ones to give their best. We should not repeat the mistake of Korea/Japan 2002, where Coach Adegboye Onigbinde experimented with some inexperienced players. We failed woefully and that remains the worst outing Nigeria has ever had in the history of the World Cup.

Philips Kelvin (student)

The list fell below my expectation. I did not expect Kanu Nwankwo, John Utaka and Danny Shittu to be in the 30-man list. What is it that Kanu has to offer this country that he has not offered? Anything that he has not offered the Super Eagles by now, I think he does not have the energy to do that anymore. Shittu did not play for Bolton Wanderers throughout the just conlcuded season. Instead of taking players like Joseph Akpala, Ajilore and Eneramo to South Africa, we are taking players who have failed us and are too ageing for the World Cup. I am afraid; nothing good should be expected from the team. Against players like Messi, Higuain, Angel Di Maria, Anguero and others, our old Eagles will find it difficult to fly beyond the first round.

Boniface Morris (civil servant)

The 30-man list is ok, but my problem is that Eneramo and Joseph Akpala are supposed to be there, instead of John Utaka. But with Osaze, Ik Uche, Kalu Uche, Mikel Obi and Obafemi Martins, I think the team will make Nigeria proud in South Africa. If the preparation is good, the team that will grow from this list will get us the semi-finals ticket. The new coach, in spite of the fact that he came in just few months ago, has been able to monitor our players across the World. And that is why he has been able to select those 30 players. He has tried his best and we should all support him to succeed.

Abu Okpanachi (policeman)

We are still parading the same old players that have failed us several times in the past. I thought that the man, after going round Europe, would come up with a team that would be different from that of Amadu. Instead, we still have Kanu, Utaka, Enyiama and others. I am not comfortable with their inclusion. With the crop of players on the list, except he brings his wealth of experience to bear, the performance of the team may not be different from the ones they recorded during Amadu’s time. Much as the players cannot be said to be bad, considering what some of them play for their clubs, but when they come to play for Nigeria, they tend to play badly. I cannot see the players doing better. If they perform better than they did in the Nations Cup, it can be attributed to the ingenuity of Coach Lagerback.
