Nigerians have been urged to imbibe the spirit of volunteerism to tackle the myriads of challenges facing the country and stimulate national development.
The Programme Director of the Islamic Dawah Group (IDG) Mallam Idris Ismail gave the advice on Saturday in Abuja at the formal closing ceremony of the 21st Islamic Dawah Vacation Course (IDVC).
“This programme is an opportunity for us especially parents to inculcate the spirit of volunteerism in ourselves and the children, to help the family, society and the nation,” Ismail said.
The 11-day programme which started on 22 December, 2016 was themed, “Let’s Work the Talk” and it features documentaries, skill acquisition, frank talks, sports, inspirational guests, Quranic and Hadith teachings, family seminar, guidance and counseling, Arabic lesson, teen affairs and mentoring among others.
The course organised by the IDG in collaboration with the Movement for Islamic Cultural Awareness (MICA), Abuja Muslim Forum (AMF) and Obafemi Awolowo University Muslim Graduates Association (UNIFEMGA).
The Camp Ameer (Leader) Alhaji Ismail Alatise, said the course which was conceptualized in 1995 was first held in Kubwa Abuja in 1996 to develop Muslims as a family to be able to contribute positively to societal and national developments.
“We hope the lessons learnt during this period would reflect on our lives and be impacted on others in our environment. The saying that those that would enter hell would strive, the way those seeking paradise are also striving. Their efforts would however yield different results,” Alatise said.
The Chief Imam of University of Abuja Prof. Tawfiq AbdulAzeez who spoke on the theme urged Nigerians especially the parents to act positively rather than acting differently from what they talk.
Also Ustaz Abdulrasaq Animashaun, Ustaz Shakirullah Badewa, Barrister Luqman Ahmad, Alhaji Abdulhakeem Raji and Barrister Sharafadeen Yusuf urged participants to sustain and improve their level of piety and righteousness gained during the course so that their neighbours and other citizens would benefit and emulate them.
Participants during the “As I see it” session to evaluate the sub-events of the course expressed appreciation to organizers for the token they collected amidst the recession facing the country.
