Nigerians urged to desist from buying substandard phones

Sinan told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that counterfeiting was now rampant and this has affected virtually all products ranging from household items to communication devices.
He called for fresh government’s initiative to deal with the issue.
He attributed the importation of substandard devices to the rapid growth in the nation’s Information Communication Technology (ICT) market in the last decade.
“One of such is the abundance of fake and substandard goods and accessories, a situation that has eaten so deep into the fabric of the sector and may destroy it if unchecked.
“The influx of fake and substandard products cut across all segments of the sector,’’ Sinan said.
He said consumers were constrained by ignorance, poverty and the inability to detect substandard devices which has made them harmful.
He advised manufacturers of genuine phones to partner with government agencies to educate consumers in order to reduce the influx of substandard devices in the market.
