NIHSA gets ecological fund support to tackle flood

Ochekpe said while launching the facilities which included operational vehicles, that government was determined to reduce the impact of flood on Nigerians hence the need to put in place all necessary measures to nip it in the bud.
She said that the facilities acquired through funds gotten from the Ecological Fund Office would strengthen the operations of NIHSA to deliver on its mandate as well as ensure that the country has reliable data and information to tackle flood.
Speaking earlier, Mr John Ayodele Shamonda, NIHSA Director General, said that the facilities would assist the agency in performing its duties.
“These facilities will go a long way in facilitating our functions in carrying out constant visits to flood prone areas across the country to check any likely occurrence of flood in the country,” he added.
Shamonda appealed to the minister to intervene in the effort to build a befitting office for the agency.
“The headquarters of this agency is in a rented office just like most of our zonal offices and this situation has put us in a precarious situation as landlords are often on our heads chasing us for rent,” he said.
