Nile University of Nigeria’s Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences organized a webinar on Cyber Security on May 7, 2020.
The virtual seminar, themed “Cyber Security in the Digital Economy,” was the latest illustration of Nile University of Nigeria’s commitment to equipping its students with the relevant knowledge and skills to take on current and future challenges and opportunities, such as those presented by digitalization.
The emergence of digital technology has resulted in a never-before-seen global transformation over the past few years.
Today, activities like shopping, money transfers, etc. can be executed with just a click of a button, which was unthinkable only a few years ago. This digital transformation is set to continue, bringing with it new opportunities and threats.
Thus, it is imperative for individuals and organizations to take proactive measures to exploit these opportunities and curb these threats when they inevitably arrive.
This sentiment was echoed in the seminar delivered by the Guest Speaker, Mr. Abdul-Hakeem Ajijola (Chairman, Consultancy Services Ltd.), who stated that a more digitalized world in the future promises benefits like the rise in GDP, drop in unemployment rates, etc. and increased cyber security threats like hacking in equal measure.
To capitalize on these opportunities and manage these threats as a nation, he continued, it is important for Nigeria’s citizens, government, and organizations to start taking the necessary actions today.
Nile University of Nigeria has proven itself to be a trendsetter in this regard.
Through its frequent organizing and hosting of science and technology events and emphasis on technology-aided learning (which contributed to its smooth transition to online learning following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic), Nile University of Nigeria has shown itself as an institution capable of preparing students for a technology-enabled future.
