NiMet predicts slim chances of floods

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has said in spite of a predicted moderate to high rainfall this weekend, there are slim chances of flash floods in most parts of the country.
The NiMet in a 3-day forecast predicted moderate to heavy rainfall was expected over parts of Osun, Lagos, Ogun, Ekiti, Ondo, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Imo, Abia, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Enugu, Kogi, Benue, Taraba, Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina, Kano, Jigawa, Kaduna, Bauchi, Gombe, Plateau, Nasarawa, Adamawa, southern part of Borno, Anambra and Ebonyi states from Friday to Sunday.
It also revealed that the light rains were expected over the rest of the country.
NiMet said, “There are slim chances of flash flood/ events on roads, settlements, farmlands and bridges.
“There are also chances of slippery roads, leading to reduced travel time, with increased likelihood of cars skidding off the road and chances of crashes.
“Strong winds are also expected to accompany the storms, which can pull down unsecured objects and weak structures.”
It advised the public to be prepared for these events to avoid damages from rain-related hazard and watch out for updates.”
