The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has trained over 2,000 farmers on the use of weather information to improve their farm produce from 2011 till date. 

The NiMet has also given out 860 rain gauges to some farmers and also trained them on how to read it.

The Director-General of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency and permanent representative of Nigeria in the World Meteorological Organisation, Professor Mansur Bako Matazu, disclosed this during a one-day symposium in commemoration of the World Food Day, 2021 held virtually. It had the theme, “The 2021 growing season,’ forecast, reality and the role of NiMet.”

He said if the country leveraged on seasonal climate predictions by the NiMet, it would mitigate against disasters and improve crop yields.
