A total of nine Nigerian films have been selected to feature at the third edition of Woodpecker International Film festival slated for New Delhi, India between September 17 and 20, 2015.
In a statement issued by the organizers, a copy of which was made available to Daily Trust on Sunday in Lagos, the nine films are said to have been slated for World Panorama section of the festival.
Known for its focus on issue-based cinema, this globally acclaimed film festival which is expected to be held at the prestigious, Siri Fort auditorium in New Delhi, is believed to serve as a unique platform to promote Nigerian cinema in India.
Quoting the Founder Director, Woodpecker International Film Festival (WFF), Narender Yadav, the statement notes; “it’s for the first time that a serious attempt is being made to bring Nigerian cinema to the Indian audience. I am sure this is going to be an enriching experience for cinema lovers in India. At the same time, these films will also attract large number of Nigerian youths, who are in New Delhi either for their higher studies or for work. Overall, it’s going to be an exciting feature of our festival this year”.
According to the statement, some of the selected films include; “Brothers” directed by Azubuike Erinugha, “Bedlam “ directed by David Nnaji, “Knocking on Heaven’s Door” directed by Desmond Eliot and “Thy will be Done” directed by Obi Emelonye.
Others include; “Doll House” directed by Kayode Peters, “Silent Tears” directed by Ishaya Bako, “Half of a Yellow Sun” as directed by Biyi Bandele, “October 1” directed by Kunle Afolayan and “Champagne” directed by Emem Isong.
According to the organisers, this year’s edition of the festival jury is headed by acclaimed actor and theatre director Mr. Avijit Dutt.
“The Jury also has Nigerian writer and filmmaker Mr Onyeka Nwelue.
Other esteemed members of the Jury include Oscar Nominated director-producer, writer and actor Ms. Ajita Suchitra Veera, journalist Mr. Mihir Shrivastav and Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) Member Mr. Ashieem Kaisthaa,” the statement read.
