A donor agency – Nigerian Partnership for Education Project (NIPEP), is set to spend the sum of N19.7bn ($100m) on girl-child education in five North-Western states.
Minister of State for Education, Professor Anthony Anwukah, made the remarks during the launch of NIPEP in Abuja yesterday. He said the project will spend the sum of $100m in promoting access and quality of basic education with emphasis on girl-child education in the North Western states of Kano, Sokoto, Kaduna, Jigawa and Katsina.
Prof Anwuka, who said the project will promote school effectiveness, increase access to school and strengthen planning and capacity of teachers, added that girls’ education in the area had faced challenges in the past and was further worsened by insurgency.
He said among the out-of-school children in the affected states there were twice as many girls as boys.
