Following the attack by gunmen on the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru, near Jos, Plateau State, which led to the death of three security operatives (two soldiers and one police officer), the federal government has pledged full support for the families of the deceased.
This was made known on Friday by the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, when he paid an on-the-spot assessment/condolence visit to the institute over the unfortunate incident.
The Vice President also pledged security improvement at the institute, adding that he will personally donate 50 solar-powered unit to enhance the illumination of the environment at night.
“On behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the federal government, and the people of Nigeria, we extend our deepest condolences to the families of the fallen heroes, the Nigerian Armed Forces, and the Nigeria Police Force.

“In the wake of the tragedy, the federal government pledged its full support to the families of the deceased and vowed to significantly strengthen security architecture around all strategic institutions nationwide.
“The President has directed that emergency security measures be activated at once, with the DG to coordinate with the Armed Forces, the Police, and the DSS to fortify the perimeter without delay.
“On the President’s order, a comprehensive action plan and timeline for permanent reinforcement, covering surveillance, personnel, access control, and emergency systems, must be submitted to the Office of the Vice President within seventy-two hours. Weekly progress reports will follow until full completion. No future attack must find us unprepared,” he said.
Shettima urged the current participants at the institute to lead Nigeria with dedication and resilience, emphasising that the government has enduring commitment to supporting NIPSS as a premier institution for national development.
In his remarks, Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, said that if the attackers had achieved their intention, the consequences would have been disastrous.
He commended the military personnel among the participants who worked alongside other troops to repel the attackers.
He said the government would do everything within its power to defend the state’s borders as well as those of the institute.
He further commended the participants for their determination to remain at the institute and continue their training despite the incident.
He also promised to conduct survey on the institute’s electricity needs to enable the government to provide support in addressing power challenge.
The Director-General of NIPSS, Ayo Omotayo, who presented an incident report of the attack to the Vice President, appealed for additional security support, including the deployment of more personnel and the installation of surveillance infrastructure such as CCTV cameras around the institute.
He noted that the attack underscored the vulnerability of critical government institutions across the country and highlighted the need for improved security measures.
