The Controller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Mr Muhammad Babandede, on Tuesday decorated 14 newly-promoted senior officers of the service with their new ranks.

Babandede said at the decoration ceremony in Abuja that the officers were among the 21 personnel that were promoted.

He said that the officers were promoted to the rank of Assistant Controller General (ACG), adding that 9 of them were male and 5 female.

“7 out of the 21 had retired. They took the exams before retirement, but left the office before they were promoted.

“There is no service like NIS where you will find gender balance.

“Standard has been set, conditions have been raised. I want to urge the newly promoted officers to show commitment and be of good behaviour.

“It is not enough to be ACGs at work, but to show good examples even outside your work place.

“As you wear the ACG rank, your coordination, perspective and focus must be service centred.

“And as a national service that is non-partisan, you have to be more patriotic and to earn the next promotion which is rated by who you are, what you do and how you do,”he added.

The CG said with the elevation, the officers needed to be of good conduct, urging them to live up to the expectation of their new status.

”Do not just wear your rank, behave well with your rank.

“The service has come to a state that no one will go unpunished when caught breaking the laws.

“There is no immunity for an officer that commit any crime at all,” he added.

He also said that the exercise was carried out to boost the morale of the personnel.

In his speech, Mr Aminu Mohammed, one of the newly promoted officers appreciated the CG and promised live meet up with the expectations of the service.

“On behalf of my colleagues, the newly promoted sir, we will do everything possible to ensure your effort is not wasted,” he said. (NAN).
