Nissan reveals all-new 2027 Rogue Hybrid e-POWER

2027 Nissan Rogue Hybrid e‑POWER and the return of Nissan Xterra mark a major turning point in Nissan’s future strategy for North America.

During a global media event held in Nashville recently, Nissan offered the first official preview of the all-new 2027 Rogue Hybrid e-POWER while also confirming that the Xterra nameplate will return later this decade.

The announcements were made as part of the company’s new long-term vision called “Mobility Intelligence for Everyday Life,” a strategy focused on electrification, AI-defined vehicles, and a stronger product lineup tailored to customer needs.

The all-new 2027 Rogue Hybrid e-POWER represents the next evolution of one of Nissan’s most successful vehicles worldwide.

The Rogue has become a core product for the brand, especially in the United States and Canada, where compact SUVs remain one of the industry’s most competitive and fastest-growing segments.

Nissan says the next-generation Rogue will build on the strengths that made the model popular—comfort, practicality, versatility, and everyday usability—while introducing advanced hybrid technology designed to improve efficiency and driving performance.

At the center of the new Rogue is Nissan’s innovative hybrid e-POWER system. Unlike conventional hybrid systems that directly connect a gasoline engine to the wheels, e-POWER uses the gasoline engine only to generate electricity. That electricity powers dual electric motors, which are solely responsible for driving the vehicle’s wheels. This setup creates a driving experience that feels much closer to a fully electric vehicle, delivering smooth acceleration, instant torque response, and quieter operation without requiring drivers to plug in the vehicle for charging.

Nissan emphasized that e-POWER has already proven itself globally. Since its introduction in 2016, the company has sold nearly two million vehicles equipped with the technology.

The system has been refined over several years and is intended to offer the benefits of electrified driving while removing concerns related to charging infrastructure or range limitations.

For North American buyers who want improved fuel efficiency and electric-like responsiveness without transitioning fully to battery-electric vehicles, the Rogue Hybrid e-POWER could become an attractive alternative.

According to Nissan executives, the Rogue remains one of the company’s most important products.

Senior Vice President and Chief Product & Planning Officer for Nissan Americas, Ponz Pandikuthira,  in a statement described the upcoming Rogue as a significant advancement for the brand.

He explained that the vehicle is designed to combine efficiency, confidence, and usability with the refined driving feel of electric motors.

Nissan believes the hybrid system will help the Rogue compete more aggressively in a segment increasingly dominated by electrified models.

The Rogue/X-Trail family has achieved remarkable success since its original introduction in 2000. Globally, the lineup has sold nearly 10 million units, including almost 4 million sales in the United States alone.

That popularity makes the next-generation Rogue especially important as Nissan works to strengthen its position in North America and accelerate its electrification plans.

While the Rogue Hybrid e-POWER captured much of the attention during the event, Nissan also generated excitement by confirming the return of the Xterra. Once known for its rugged styling and off-road capability, the Xterra developed a loyal following before production ended years ago.

Nissan has now announced that an all-new version is officially in development, with production planned in the United States and a targeted launch date in late 2028.
