Speaking in Abuja, NITDA’s acting Director General Dr Ashiru Sani Daura said the new computer emergency team has developed cyber security policies strategies and standards that would reduce cybercrimes in the country.
Dr Daura said the imitative would continuously identify existing and potential computer related threats with a view to preventing them.
“It will notify as appropriate, build capacities, develop the requisite readiness processes, coordinate responses, build relationships and liaise as needed with similar incident response teams locally and worldwide.   NITDA in keeping to its mandate looks forward to sharing the cyber related policy templates it has, encouraging interested local organisations and groups to participate in hands on global cyber-drills and focusing on empowering our youth with the knowledge and tools to develop a home grown Cyber Security Solutions industry”, he said while commissioning the response team.
He said it is envisaged as a collaborative multi-stakeholder Information Technology (IT) driven entity that would promote the development of requisite capacities and building of synergies within and between appropriate entities in all relevant spheres of our nation and beyond.  
He said “the activities of the team are actualized through the following core components namely: Fusion Centre consisting of a cyber-monitoring centre that monitors the cyber space, especially those parts of that are carried on Nigerian based Information Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure. It also has a help desk where the public and organisations can report cyber-incidents.  It will also engage in building collaborative platforms and Cyber-Threat Analysis and generation of threat and incident statistics.
“Awareness/ Training/ Liaison/ Communications section will focus on building the capacity of Nigerian human resource base by leveraging on the train-the-trainers approach.  It will embark on capacity building partnerships with interested organisations especially academia, service providers, public and private sector organisations.  It will facilitate the development of standards in-line with NITDA’s mandate.
“Cyber Forensics Laboratory can analyse and resolve cyber security incidents as needed in Nigeria by Nigerians and for Nigerians.
