The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) on Friday flagged off a Software Development programme for university graduates across the country.
The initiative which was done in partnership with Graduates Internship Scheme (GIS) under the Federal Ministry of Finance had the first batch of trainees comprising of 100 Nigerian youths in attendance.
The trainees are expected to undergo an intensive three months training on software development.
The training, which is part of NITDA’s mandate to build capacity will see the youths coming out to become IT entrepreneurs after the three months training.
Speaking at the event, the acting Director- General of NITDA,
Dr. Vincent Olatunji, said the programme is targeted towards IT youth empowerment, that will help develop and empower graduate youth with IT employability skills.
He said, “What we are doing is to empower our youth with the basic skills needed to compete favorably anywhere in the world. We want to assist and mentor these 100 youths to become successful entrepreneurs that will ultimately create jobs.”
