The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has rewarded three outstanding students that participated in a software competition that saw secondary school students developing websites on Nigeria’s tourism sector.
The maiden edition of the competition organised by NITDA in partnership with Open Source Global Limited saw the top three winners getting a cash prize of N500,000; N300,000 and N200, 000 respectively.
Erenyanale Ingowari of Loyola Jesuit College Abuja took the first position while Lawal Abimbola of Regal College Shagamu Ogun State came second with Ebi Ikechukwu also of Loyola Jesuit College clinching the third place.
In his speech after the competition,  NITDA’s Director-General, Mr Peter Jack, advised the students to invest in the knowledge based economy, noting the era of only downloading rather than giving back to the society was over.
Represented on the occasion by the NITDA’s Director of corporate strategy and research, Dr Vincent Olatunji, Jack said the government would continue to support local ICT initiative, especially from students.  
In his remarks, the chairman of the competition’s grading team, Mr Chris Uwaje, said the maiden edition of the competition was a very successful outing that should go into the international standards of how competitions should be run in a transparent way, on the principle of what you know rather than who you know.
