NIWA boosts waterways safety personnel

The National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA)

The National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) has increased its waterways safety personnel from 80 to 350.

The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, stated this at a roundtable on waterways safety.

Oyetola emphasised the government’s commitment to ensuring safety through 24-hour surveillance at major jetties and loading points.

NIWA’s Managing Director, Bola Oyebamiji, highlighted improvements in safety measures, including standardised boat operations and better navigational facilities.
