The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Bayelsa State council, has urged the state government to pay the backlog of three months’ salary owed workers in the state since 2016. 

The state government  had in January 2018 explained  that the outstanding salaries were as a result of half salaries paid to workers during the recession in 2016.

The NLC chairman in the state, Mr John Bipre Ndiomu, told journalists on Tuesday in Yenagoa that workers in the state were still being owed three months salary arrears. 

He noted that the arrears, if paid could go a long way in reducing the plight of workers as well as improve their wellbeing. 

He said: “Yes, we are owed three months by the state government; we call their attention on the need to pay the arrears now that we have come out of recession. 

“There is need for the government to pay the three months arrears that are owed workers in the state since 2016. 

On the proposed minimum wage, the chairman said the on-going negotiations for a new minimum wage is on the right track, and urged  the Federal Government to hasten action to implement it.
