The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has revealed that preparations are in top gear to introduce a labour-initiated transport system that will assist in easing workers transportation challenges in Kano State.
This was disclosed by the National President of NLC, Com. Ayuba Wabba, at the Kano Government House during the launching of a documentary film depicting employer-employee relationship in an organised setting titled: “Hakki”, as part of the 2019 pre-May Day celebration.
Com. Wabba said the transport system would ease workers’ hardship usually experienced in transportation to work.
He said, “The transport system to be introduced is only second to Lagos State, where brand new buses will be in Kano to ease the hardship workers face in transportation. Moreover, it is going to be at subsidised fares and this will further boost the morale of our workers in the state.”
The NLC boss commended Gov. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje for accepting the N30,000 minimum wage increment right from day one and also for taking good care of retirees in the state in terms of timely pension and gratuity payments.
In his address, Gov. Ganduje said synergy between employer and employee was indispensable and that none could exist without the other.
Ganduje added that the synergy clearly indicated that both had to work together no matter what for an effective output.
The governor further said celebrating the 2019 Workers Day with a parade was not enough for workers to appraise the employer-employee relationship, and that that was the reason the state government was introducing an award night where distinguished workers and employers were to be identified and rewarded.
About N20m was realised at the occasion for the purchase of the film, with the highest donation of N5m from the state government, while the 44 local government areas of the state, through the Commissioner for Local Government, Murtala Sule Garo, donated 4.4m.
