Wabba, who spoke with journalists recently in his office on what the NLC wants from the incoming president said “once you are able to unlock the challenges in the power sector and we have power 24/7, I assure you that the potentials of Nigerians especially the working class will then be unleashed and our economy and development will be unprecedented.”
He added that “even in the 70s when we had steady power supply there was nothing in Nigeria that we didn’t produce, most of the companies today that have migrated to other countries like Dunlop, they migrated because of the fact that the economic climate does not support industrialization.”
He said, “Look at our textile industries; all those industries that we celebrated in the 70s and early 80s have wound up because of one single challenge; the challenge of power. So power is critical to any development in the world.
“Therefore if we are to unlock the issue of development and also create the required employment capacity generation then…the incoming government must look at the issue of power sector and try to stabilize the sector, this is the only way we can think about development.”
The NLC also urged Buhari to tackle both public and private sector corruption, wanting him to particularly concentrate on ensuring Nigerian refineries produce all refined products in the country.
