NLNG Nigeria Prize for Literature 2022 longlist released

Prof Akachi Adimora-Ezeigbo, Chair of the Advisory Board

The longlist for the NLNG Nigeria Prize for Literature 2022 has been announced.

Poetry is the 2022 prize focus and 11 works were longlisted from 237 entries.

In a statement, the chair of the advisory board, Prof Akachi Adimora-Ezeigbo, said three works should be shortlisted in September while the winner is billed to be revealed from the shortlist in October.

Prof. Sule Emmanuel Egya chairs the judging panel for the 2022 edition with Toyin Adewale-Gabriel, and Dike Chukwumerije as members. Also, on the advisory board alongside Prof Akachi Adimora-Ezeigbo as chair are Prof. Olu Bafemi, and Prof. Ahmed Yerima.

The longlist includes ‘Augusta’s Poodle’ by Ogaga Ifowodo; ‘Coming Undone as Stitches Tighten,’ by  IquoDiana Abasi; ‘Dispossessed’ by James Eze; ‘Ife Testament’ by  Segun Adekoya. Others are ‘Memory and the Call of Water’ by  Su’eddie Vershima Agema; ‘Nomad,’ by  Romeo Oriogun; ‘The Lilt of the Rebel’ by Obari Gomba; ‘The Love Canticles,’ by  Chijioke Amu Nnadi; ‘Wanderer Cantos,’ by  Remi Raji; ‘Yawns and Belches,’ by  Joe Ushie and ‘Your Crib, My Qibla,’ by  Saddiq Dzukogi. 

Among past winners is Daily Trust’s columnist and author, Abubakr Adam Ibrahim.
