NLS deploys security infrastructure, medical workers in campuses

Director General of NLS, Dr. Olanrewaju Onadeko, stated this in the Council of Legal Education (CLE) statutory report to the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), a copy of which was made available to Daily Trust.
The DG said that since assumption of office, he has been inundated with calls to close down the Kano and Yola campuses because of the security challenges posed by insurgents in those parts of the country.
“I wish to report that, God has been gracious and so far there has been no incident that justifies the fear expressed about those campuses. However, we have embarked upon the immediate fencing of our Yola and Kano campuses to forestall their apparent vulnerability,” the DG said.
He added that the NLS has also secured the support of the Inspector General of Police, Chief of Defence Staff and the State Security Service for the deployment of plainclothes officers and men to all the campuses.
“Within our modest means, we have also acquired and deployed modern security gadgets to all campuses. We also have in place CCTV cameras at strategic locations on the advice of our security experts to aid the operation of our security personnel,” he added. The DG commended the NBA for the planning and execution of the 50th anniversary celebration of the establishment of the NLS by the CLE in November 2013, adding that echoes of the huge success of the series of events that made the programme such a memorable one still resonate globally.
Meanwhile, in line with the federal government’s directive, the NLS management last week organised a sensitisation programme for health workers in all its campuses.
The programme focused on ways of preventing the spread of the Ebola Virus Diseases (EVD).
One of the resource persons, Bashiru Zubar, told Daily Trust that the NLS, as  an academic institution with students coming from various parts of the country, needed the sensitisation.
He added that since there were threats of the spread of EVD in Rivers and Lagos states and with some students coming from these states as well as other neighbouring countries, the programme will equip health workers in these institutions to diagnose, manage and particularly know any student that has  it and how to prevent it from spreading.
