The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) received a strong vote of confidence on Wednesday from major youth and civil society organizations, who defended the agency’s role in stabilizing Nigeria’s fuel market after the removal of subsidy.

Representatives from the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), the League of Civil Society Groups, described the recent campaign against the NMDPRA CEO, Engr. Farouk Ahmed, as “baseless and dangerous to economic reforms.”

Comrade Akoshile Mukhtar (NYCN VP), Mohammed Basah (League President) and civil rights activist Comrade Okpanachi Jacob all spoke in defense of the regulator, arguing that the agency’s reforms have encouraged investment, improved transparency and reduced dependency on imported fuel.

“Let us not allow the progress made to be reversed by those who benefit from chaos,” Basah warned.

The groups jointly resolved to name and shame those behind coordinated attacks and vowed to continue their public advocacy in support of reforms that benefit the Nigerian people.
