The Necas Network of Entrepreneurial Women (NNEW) has empowered 40 widows with entrepreneurship skills. 

The chairperson of NNEW, Abuja chapter, Mrs Omololami Ajani, said the training was organised to equip widows with the necessary skills to start their own business. 

“What we are doing is to empower them with skills that will enable them start their own business. We are able to train about 40 of the widows today with the HP live programme business tool. That is our own way of giving back to the society,” she said.

One of the widows, Oluwatoyin Adetunji, said she learnt a lot on the basics of finance. “It will help me in whatever business I am going to start. With what I have learnt today, I think I am equipped for the business I want to do.” 

Another widow, Clementina Ibezie, shared her experience thus: “I have been able to see the weaknesses I had that made my business fail earlier. I have learnt that I need financial skills to manage my business well,” she said. 

The Business Manager Axa Manzard Insurance, Abuja branch, Adaku Ossai, said they decided to partner with NNEW because they believed in women empowerment.

“We have a unit that we call Super Hero Everyday (SHE), and Hero Everyday (HE). We are trying to empower women to be financially stable and also make them know they have a role to play when it comes to insuring their lives and properties,” Ossai added.
