Nigeria National Petroleum Company NNPC in partnership with TOTAL, Red Cross Society of Nigeria and other Agencies have kicked off support programme for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and victims of the insurgency in the North-East.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive of  TOTAL Mr Nicolas Terraz who was represented by Engineer Vincent Nnamdi,  stated this yesterday in Gombe at the flag off of the gesture to ease the suffering of the victims of insurgency.
He said the gesture was in response to the federal government’s call on corporate bodies and private organisation to support its effort to rehabilitate and rebuild the North-East.
Terraz said the programme was expected to be  run for one year with a high impact targeted on the most vulnerable among widows, children and the elderly.
He said, the programme was designed to enhance livelihood activities of the beneficiaries with a view to boosting their economic status, provide safe learning spaces for the children, health support, supply of safe water and personal hygiene among others.
He who commended the state and the federal government called on other corporate and private bodies as well as well meaning individuals to join in the effort.
Also speaking, spokesperson of the Presidential Initiative on North-East development Mal Mohammed Danjuma stated that out of the total number of the IDPs 70% of them were living within various communities and yet had little or nothing to support their livelihood and that the need for all to support in rendering humanitarian services to them remains necessary.
He commended the effort of the NNPC and their partners, and advised them to ensure the sustainability of the programme.
