The NNPC Foundation, the social impact Company of NNPC Limited has rolled out the distribution of 25,000 STEM textbooks to select public schools across the country.

Flagging off the distribution at the School of the Gifted, Gwagwalada, Abuja, the Managing Director, NNPC Foundation Ltd, Mrs. Emmanuella N. Arukwe said STEM is a veritable means of bridging the gap in economic advancement and technological innovation.

She said   since its inception in February 2023, the foundation has undertaken key initiatives in the areas of education and empowerment, health, environment and access to energy to boost social and economic development.

Emmanuelle said: “As part of our educational initiatives, we are pleased to introduce the STEM Books and Shelves Distribution Project, designed to enhance the study of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) in secondary schools across Nigeria.

“This is the second phase of the initiative, which we commenced in 2024, with 15 schools from the six geopolitical zones of the country and the FCT.”

She disclosed that a total of 40,000 STEM textbooks, from both the first and now second phases of this initiative are to be distributed to public secondary schools in the 36 States and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, with the identified schools receiving 1,000 copies each of the textbooks and a designated library bookshelf for storage and accessibility.

She further said the NNPC Foundation is driving this initiative in secondary schools to build interest amongst the youths and help them navigate the modern world of science and technology.

“The world is increasingly technology-driven, and it will be important to equip our young with the relevant skills to keep up with a fast-paced technological world and to foster economic development,” she added.

In his welcome remarks, Mallam Adamu Bello, the Principal of School commended the foundation for its generosity.

He said: “The Foundation donation shows what can be achieved when corporates come together to support education

“We look forward to receiving donations in other areas like desktop and laptops, as well as internet facilities to enhance the educational experience of our students.”
