The FCT Police Commissioner, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, said the allegations of an attempt to assassinate a naval officer, Lt. Ahmed Yerima, along Kubwa Expressway are false.
Dantawaye, while reacting to a publication by an Instagram blogger, ‘Mazitudeednut’ dismissed the alleged assassination attempt on the Naval officer at NNPC Junction, Kubwa Expressway, as untrue.
According to him, some police officers who were on routine stop-and-search duty at NNPC Junction, Kubwa, at about 6:17 pm on Sunday, intercepted an ash-coloured Toyota Camry with a concealed number plate and fully tinted windows.
He said in line with standard operational procedure, the police officers approached the vehicle and politely requested the occupant’s identity, along with an explanation for the concealments.
He said the occupant of the vehicle refused to identify himself to the police team and proceeded to make several calls after winding up his tinted windows.
“It wasn’t until a few minutes later that three naval personnel arrived at the location and cordially identified the occupant of the vehicle as their colleague,” he said.
CP Dantawaye said the three Naval officers at the scene took video and picture footage of the encounter with the police team and left.
“Following this confirmation, the police team allowed the vehicle to proceed. The patrol team then continued its operations peacefully and without any further incident,” he stated.
The police commissioner, however, said it was surprising to later discover “maliciously crafted tales,” and, “worst of all, allegations of assassinating a naval officer.”
CP Dantawaye, while calling on FCT residents and visitors to always cooperate with police officers in the discharge of their lawful duty, warned against peddling fake and unverified news capable of creating fear and apprehension in the society.
He called on residents to ensure they report any suspicious activity to the police through the command’s emergency lines: 08032003913, 08068587311, and CRU: 08107314192.
