The Vice Chancellor of the Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Professor Mohammed Akaro Mainoma, yesterday said there was no basis to confirm the recent allegation of admission inconsistency in the university.
Nasarawa State House of Assembly on Monday recommended an indefinite suspension on Prof. Mainoma, over alleged admission discrepancy.
But in his reaction, the VC said there was no substantive reason for the said allegation because the 2015/16 admission exercise conducted by the institution was authentic and about 80 per cent of the students admitted were indigenes of the state while 20 per cent were from other states of the federation.
He said he was not directly in charge of students’ admission; rather, the central admission committee enrolls students.
He said “the role of the VC in admission exercise is minor; the central admission committee is responsible.  The allegations that we admitted students who falsely claimed to be native of the Nasarawa State could only be established during screening and registration procedures.”
The VC said he hasn’t got any correspondence from either the legislature or the executives over the matter and he is still at the helm of affairs at the school.
