The armed group, whose motives could be greed, selfish  and unpatriotic could not get their much sought after  desire of plunging the state into undue commotion, because the people of Kogi State are known for their tolerance to each other, irrespective of their various religious affiliations.

Kogi State has been one of the most peaceful states in the central part of this country. These miscreants werebent on tarnishing the name of the state, to impress on the world that Kogi is an unstable state. But this would be resisted by the good people of the state, who are determined to ensure the sustainability of their state. They made sacrifices to see this dream of Kogi State come to reality.

The efforts of the state government to tackle insecurity should be commended.  Also, the tireless efforts of security agencies in tackling the menace of this armed group in the state is highly commendable.

But we must show our displeasure over the hasty way Governor Idris Wada left the state for Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to perform Ummrah, the lesser hajj, when his presence at that particular time was needed to douse the rising tension.

This attitude could be likened to President Goodluck Jonathan’s trip abroad when the security situation in the country was precarious. In as much we would not stop the governor from performing such religious obligations, his haste in leaving the state leaves much to be desired. We hope next time he should make sure he gives the needed attention to such crisis.

Thank goodness, the Boko Haram has vindicated Kogi State, because they have indicated that the state is not one of their main targets. This has shown that the attack on Okene, was purely a criminal act. We believe such dastardly act that happened in Okene would never occur again, bearing in mind various measures put in place to prevent it from recurring in the future.
