Director of Weather Forecasting Services at the agency, Mr Ifeanyi Daniel Nnodu, in an interview with Daily Trust said that the severity of dust raised from the Sahara desert in the past days has been responsible for poor visibility, among other associated hazards.
He said: “It is normal for dust to be raised from the Sahara desert and when it is raised it is transported from the northernmost part of the country down to the southernmost part and it is at this period of the year that it occurs with very strong winds.
“What we are having now is normal, this is the period it can happen and it is very severe and once visibility is very poor flights will be cancelled normally.” Nnodu said.
