The Sokoto State Pilgrims Welfare Agency has refuted the news making the round, especially in Nigeria that the accommodation of their pilgrims in Makkah was engulfed by fire.
The Director Operation of the Agency, Alhaji Abdulganiyu Muhammad said the news was false.
"It is not true, there was no fire outbreak in any of our accommodations in Makkah, " he reiterated
It was gathered that there was a commotion in the hotel shortly after the Magrib prayer which was caused by a false alarm.
It started when a significant number of women began running out of the mosque shouting "fire, fire, fire", thus causing commotion, during a special announcement by the Media Assistant to the agency, Faruk Umar,
" People then started running helter skelter but thank God the situation is calm because it was discovered to be a false alarm," one of the eyewitnesses said
Another eyewitness, Malam Sani Kwanni described the situation as a work of Shaitan, urging people to remain calm.
