The Kogi state governor, Usman Ahmed Ododo has cancelled the presentation of Tax Clearance Certificate( TCC) before enrollment into tertiary institutions in the State.
The Executive chairman of kogi state Internal Revenue Service ( KGIRS) , Alhaji Sule Enehe disclosed this to newsmen in Lokoja on Wednesday.
He said the decision of the governor followed public outcry against the policy , saying , the present administration will not inflict pain on the citizens.
Enehi noted that the payment of taxes is a constitutional responsibility of citizens, stressing that the governor has intervened in the implementation of the tax clearance certificate (TCC) which the agency has to comply with immediately.

According to Enehe, the order to stop TCC as requirement for admission and registration started from 14th January 2025, stressing that the agency will communicate the decision of the governor to the concerned tertiary institutions to that effect.
“No child should be denied admission over Tax Clearance Certificate(TCC). The governor ordered that the implementation of the policy stopped from from 14th January 2025”, said Enehi , KGIRS Boss.
However, he said the governor has urged citizens to pay their taxes and update their tax payment schedules for government to be able to fund projects that will raise standard of living of the people of the state .
He added that despite the stoppage,some students whose parents refused to pay taxes may not enjoy certain privileges and benefits.
Meanwhile, Enehe has reiterated the commitment of the board to improve the capacity of its revenue generation to overshoot the 2024 target.
He said the agency has shown steady growth in revenue generation, setting a target of N35.1b for 2025 service year .
“The target for 2022 was N23.2bn, paid in N18.2bn; in 2023, the target was N24.5bn, but N23.5bn generated; in 2024, N30.2bn was targeted , N27.7bn was generated”, he said .
