President Veterinary Council of Nigeria, Prof. Garba Sharubutu, said there will be no national security without food security.
He stated this in Sokoto at the VCN Professional Continuing Education Seminar 2015 with theme : ‘’ The Role of Veterinary Practice in Enhancing National Security.”
The VCN President, who was represented by Dr. Allswell, said veterinarians have great roles to play to ensure food security.
He harped on the need for efforts to be geared towards ensuring food security in the country.
Speaking on the role of veterinarians on national security, ACP Aishatu Abubakar-Baju of the State House Veterinary Medical Centre, described food security as a vital component of national security.
“Veterinarians through their understanding of prevention and control of zoonoses and food safety issues play a very significant role in the provision of food security which is a vital component of national security,” she stated.
Sokoto state Governor Aminu Tambuwal expressed commitment of the state government towards boosting livestock production in the state.
The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Alhaji Ahmad Aliyu stated the readiness of the state government to partner with individuals and organisations to develop agricultural potentials in the state.
