The Chief Technical Officer and Subject Matter Specialist (SMS) in the Federal Ministry of Agriculture in Kebbi State, Mr. Paul Na’Allah, said the ministry was waiting for directives from the new administration to kick start this year’s fertiliser distribution.
“The targeted farmers for 2014 wet season were 274,408 farmers for generic GES. But for 2015 there’s nothing yet. We are only waiting for directives from Abuja.”
He, however, stated that 18 out of 20 tractors allocated by the federal government to the state for the tractors hiring service have been released to the state.
The permanent secretary of the state Ministry of Agriculture, Alhaji Yahaya Jega, stated that apart from the 13,000 units of water pumps distributed to farmers for this year’s dry season farming, the immediate past administration did not make any provision for fertiliser to farmers.
