Former Super Eagles assistant coach, Salisu Yusuf, has said he is not regretting his decision to manage Barau football club in the ongoing Nigeria National League (NNL).
After unsatisfactory results in four matches played so far, the club on Wednesday suspended the veteran coach and directed one of his assistants, Rabi’u Tata, to take over the technical bench.
However, the former Kano Pillars, El-Kanemi Warriors, Enyimba, Rangers and Lobi Stars coach has announced his resignation from the position he assumed five months ago.
Speaking to Daily Trust yesterday, the former coach of the silver winning Super Eagles-B squad at the 2018 edition of the Championship of African Nations (CHAN) in Morocco said he accepted the offer to coach Barau FC because he didn’t want to disappoint the owner of the club.
He also said since no knowledge is a waste, he was able to gain useful experience within the period that he worked with the club.
“I am not surprised by the decision of the management to suspend me. They want instant results even as they are competing for the first time against other clubs that have been around for decades. It takes a lot to win matches in the NNL.
“After I agreed to keep myself busy with Barau FC, I received more than three offers from clubs in the NPFL, but I decided to stay because I didn’t want to disappoint the proprietor of the club. I had given him my word so I decided to work for him.
“I want to say it has been an interesting time because I have experienced life in the lower cadre of the Nigerian league. So, I have no regrets,” said Coach Yusuf.
