The Women’s Commission of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) is set to host the final zonal seminar of its nationwide initiative in Owerri, Imo State, from September 16 to 18, 2025.

The three-day programme will bring together female coaches, administrators, and technical officials from State Sports Councils and Commissions across the South-South and South-East geopolitical zones. Sessions will take place at the Executive Garden Hotels on Okigwe Road, in the Imo State capital.

Professor Florence Adeyanju, Chairperson of the NOC Women’s Commission, will preside over the seminar, while the Commission’s Secretary, Mrs. Kemi Obidahunsi, confirmed that the Owerri gathering represents the successful conclusion of a series that began in July 2025. Previous editions engaged participants from the North Central, North East, North West, and South-West zones.

In her remarks, Professor Adeyanju praised the commitment of Women’s Commission members in the South-East and South-South, commending their determination to host the seminar despite challenges. She stressed the importance of resilience in empowering female leaders across the sports sector.

The event will be formally inaugurated by Engr. Habu Ahmed Gumel, President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee and Nigeria’s representative on the International Olympic Committee (IOC), who has underscored the national significance of the initiative.
