At the donation ceremony, the movie star said that it was her own idea to help and encourage the sanitation standard of the Cross River State capital, Calabar and called on other well-meaning individuals and corporate organisations to support the sanitation effort of the metropolis.
But she stressed that there was dire need for the state government to provide insurance covers to the sanitation workers, since they are usually exposed to high risks through exposure to contaminating dirts, fumes and dangerous drivers.
She said, “I believe there should be insurance policies for these sanitation workers because  they are doing a risky job. This will encourage others who do the same job in case of accidents. It is really not an easy job, so, they should be commended”.
She tasked Cross River and other states to ensure that the lives of those who carry out the cleaning exercises were insured in case of accidents.
She lamented that public workers have unnecessarily lost their lives in the course of carrying out their official works.
The actress charged other state governments to emulate the Cross River aesthetic experience by embarking on comprehensive daily sanitation exercise instead of the practice of reserving the last Saturday of every month for special sanitation.
Henshaw said: “Other states need to look at what we are doing in Cross River so that major cities in the country will be like Calabar. There is really no need for a special monthly exercise if this is done. I also urge corporate bodies and individuals to donate materials to them to continue their good work.”
Receiving the items, the Executive Secretary of CUDA, Mr. Gabriel Egari, said the agency believed in sanitation exercise that starts from the home on daily basis, adding that by so doing the monthly exercise adopted by most governments would be irrelevant.
