He said there are plans by the Imo state government to make the state a haven for the industry in order to give it a sense of belonging in the country.

Onyegbule disclosed this recently while receiving an award as the most outstanding artist from the state presented to him by the Correspondents’ Chapel of Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Imo State Council.

  Okey Bakasi hinted that the whole process of achieving the step is still in the making, adding that Nollywood has contributed immensely in promoting  tourism in the country.

  He regretted that since inception, the industry has been a floating industry without a base, adding that the intention of Government is to make Owerri, the headquarters of the state, a base for the industry.

  He said that Imo is a Nollywood friendly state and is blessed with a good number of artistes who have pioneered the film industry  and contributed to the economic development of the country.

  He said that for the first time, Imo state hosted the Most Beautiful Girls in Nigeria (MBGN) after Lagos state.

  The SSA said that since assumption of office, he has contributed immensely in the areas of entertainment for the smooth running of the present government of Ikedi Ohakim and development of tourism industry.

  While expressing joy at the award he urged the members of the Correspondents’ Chapel to keep it up, describing it as a right steps in the right direction.

  Speaking earlier the Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel Imo State , Comrade Everest Ezihe reminded him that he was selected based on merit after public assessment.
