Nomadic schools educate 1.2m pupils

The Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Nomadic Education (NCNE), Professor Bashir Haruna Usman, has said 1.2 million pupils have so far graduated from various nomadic schools across the country. 

 

Prof. Usman made the disclosure during a three-day workshop in Abuja.

According to him, nomadic schools started in 1990 with 329 pupils but the number rose 578, 000 pupils in 2016.  “We have graduated around 1.2 million pupils through nomadic education in the country,” he said. He said the commission has a total of 4,776 teachers.

Speaking earlier, Sen. Jibril Aminu said schools under the commission have improved the lives of nomadic children. He said the commission was set up to address the challenges facing nomads in the country.

He said more needs to be done to improve the education of nomads in the country.
