Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State
The North-Central All Progressives Congress (APC) Forum has restated its support for Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s possible defection to the ruling party, saying it disagrees with a recent resolution by Plateau APC leaders opposing the move.
At a stakeholders’ meeting held in Jos on October 17, 2025, Plateau APC leaders had endorsed a motion moved by former Deputy National Secretary, Barrister Festus Fuanter, rejecting any plan to admit Governor Mutfwang into the party.
The Forum, in a statement released in Abuja by its chairman, Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, said it was not part of the Plateau stakeholders’ meeting and that its position remains in favour of Mutfwang joining the APC.
According to Zazzaga, the Forum believes that welcoming the governor would strengthen the party’s presence in Plateau State and the North-Central region. He added that their call for Mutfwang’s defection is based on the need to consolidate the APC’s political advantage ahead of future elections.
He noted that, “Our position has always been that anyone willing to join and strengthen the APC should be encouraged. The governor has demonstrated leadership capacity, and his coming into the party would be in the collective interest of its members.”
The Forum urged APC leaders in Plateau State to prioritize unity and electoral strength over internal disagreements, saying that “party growth requires inclusiveness and collaboration.”
It also appealed for fair consideration of all members in appointments and internal party rewards, emphasizing that such recognition should be based on commitment and performance during elections.
Meanwhile, the Plateau APC chapter had earlier reacted to reports of Mutfwang’s possible defection, saying it was not aware of any ongoing discussions to that effect and urging the governor to clarify claims that he was under pressure to join the ruling party.
The North-Central APC Forum, however, maintained that there is growing interest among its members to see Mutfwang in the party, adding that consultations are ongoing among stakeholders to achieve this goal.
