The North-East Governors’ Forum (NEGF) met for the 11th time on 1st May 2025 in Damaturu, Yobe State. As usual, they released a familiar communique listing several important issues like insecurity, poor roads, poverty, and youth unemployment. While these are real problems, the forum still lacks real action and results. There are many statements, but not enough solutions.

The forum says it is about regional collaboration. But real collaboration means more than just talking. It means the states should work together on projects, share resources, set clear goals, and follow up with action. So far, we do not see that.

Why have they not created a joint security task force funded by the states? Why are there no shared plans to improve roads or schools across state borders? Why are they only calling on the federal government, instead of acting together as a region?

If insecurity and poverty affect all the states, then they should take joint steps to solve them. This includes planning, budgeting, and reporting progress to the public. Releasing statements after every meeting is not enough. The people need action they can see and feel in their daily lives.

The NEGF can become a strong voice for the North-East. But only if it moves from talk to action. Meetings and speeches will not rebuild the region. What we need now is teamwork, commitment, and real results.

It is time to stop talking and start doing.
