The Arewa Think Tank (ATT) has declared that the North has no reason not to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, citing strides made by his administration in security, infrastructure, and social development across the region.

In a statement issued yesterday, the convener of the group, Muhammad Alhaji Yakubu, argued that Tinubu’s developmental focus has delivered tangible benefits to Northern communities and deserves continued support.

“Arewa Think Tank calls on the people of the North to rally round Mr President and re-elect him in 2027,” Yakubu said. “We must tell ourselves the bitter truth that as it is now, North does not need political power for now, but infrastructural and human development which President Tinubu has continuously been pushing to our people in the North.”

The statement follows a recent leadership summit in Kaduna, where Northern political voices reviewed Tinubu’s time in office. While some leaders raised concerns about poverty and insecurity, others applauded key federal initiatives targeting the North.

Yakubu defended the administration’s record, saying insecurity and economic hardship were inherited challenges. 

“Our candid advice to northern leaders is that they should stop playing the blame game and instead focus on long-standing regional neglect, which Tinubu has come to repair,” he said, adding that the problems had existed for years, including under Northern leaders.

He highlighted projects such as the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Expressway and the Kano-Katsina-Maradi rail line as evidence of Tinubu’s commitment to regional development. He also noted the government’s support for education and empowerment programmes targeting out-of-school children and the Almajiri population.

“There has been measurable progress in eliminating bandit kingpins and terrorist commanders in the North,” he said. “We also commend efforts to reduce youth vulnerability through targeted social programmes.”

Yakubu stressed that Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda has brought a new approach to governance and development in the North. He urged Northern voters to back continuity in 2027 for deeper transformation.

“The North cannot afford to lose this opportunity. President Tinubu has shown commitment to our region, and we must reciprocate with our support,” he said.
